Another Two Shows, Another Two Kegs

During November, Art Rogue hosted two back-to-back weekends of openings. We started with our monthly First Saturday where all the galleries and studios in our vicinity were open. The second was the yearly Artrageous

Although unsure of the reaction I would get, I introduced a new body of work. The White Picket Fence series is about truth versus perception.

We all know people and families who seem sweet and normal on the surface but behind closed doors have problems, illnesses, phobias, and generalized disfunction.

I photographed all the dolls in display cases at antique malls. No dolls were posed and no sets were created. Oh…and no dolls were harmed in the photographing of this project. I tried to bring the dolls to life. I photographed them as if they were real, not as if I were selling them on ebay.

The reaction to the series was mixed. Some thought the dolls were cute. Many freaked out because their weird aunt or grandma collected Hummel Dolls. The best feedback was when I explained my techniques, intentions, and the titles. Well, the titles explained themselves.

All and all, I had a rockin good time. I worked my ass off to get the show together, and I hope I can keep the ball rolling. Or the keg flowing, which ever you prefer. You prefer the keg, don’t you? Admit it.
