Good People, Bad People, and Just People. What are You?
Yesterday I was walking my dog Dutch a few blocks away from my loft. We found a nice little patch of grass to play in and Dutch started rolling around on his back. That’s when it happened.
Dutch let out a loud yelp, jumped up, and then cowered. He was in serious pain and you could tell. So much pain that he could barely walk and we were blocks away from home where I left my phone as well. I didn’t want to leave him there and I was afraid to carry him because I didn’t know what was wrong. He is also an 87 pound beast.
So I helped him barely hobble across the street where I saw people getting out of work at this office. I asked one man “will you please watch my dog for a minute. He is hurt and I have to run about a block to get my car?” The man looked at me as if I was crazy. Another man came out. Same thing. Then another and another and another. No one would help me out and I was obviously distressed.
Finally this young sweet girl came out and I explained my dilemma. She agreed to stay with Dutch, which was good for him and me because he loves the ladies. I ran home grabbed my keys, and drove back. I picked Dutch up and put him in the van. There was some yelping involved. We drove to the vet to have him checked out.
When we got to the clinic and the vet started to examine him it was as if nothing had happened. He was so exited to be around people he forgot his pain and the vet couldn’t find anything wrong. Once I got back to our place he could barely walk again. Finally we made it inside and I just let him sleep all night.
He seems to be O.K. now and walking better. Hopefully he just pulled a muscle. I’m gonna keep an eye on him for the next few days.
So this is a post about my dog, but it is more than that. It is about the people who would not help me out when I, a fellow human being and k-9 companion obviously needed help.
It is also a post about that one person who stepped up and showed some kindness, humanity, and moral responsibility. Whoever you are thank you.
It is so common today to hear stories of people getting robbed, raped, or assaulted in public and around people and those people witness but do nothing to intervene or help.
There are good people, there are bad people, and there are just people. The girl that helped me was good. The people that didn’t help me or those who witness violence on others and do nothing I am undecided on. They could be bad but maybe just selfish cowards.
What type of person are you?

Well. I don’t know what kind of person I am, but I love that picture of my fat jerkus.

I bet Dutch is just sore from lil Geezus roughing him up the other night. :) Good people seem hard to come by these days. Hope Dutch is doing better now.

Hello…Mommy, I don’t appreciate you calling me fat. I am wide gauge and snuggly. I also disagree with the term Jerkus just because I have attitude confidence. Just ask the ladies.

Sadly, some people are bad. Sigh…
I certainly would have helped you & Dutch. I would hope that if I found myself in the same situation that someone would help me. & my dog :)
