About Matt Mikulla
Artist, Photographer, and Internet Nerd
The Early Years
I was born in Indianapolis Indiana and grew up for most of my life in Columbus Ohio. My family has been involved in the picture framing business my whole life, so artwork was always around to study. In my early years of education the only thing that I really excelled in was art.
As a teenager I grew up fast and gained "life experience" by following bands like The Grateful Dead and Phish.
Education
When it was time to go to college, I chose to attend The University of Montana, in the beautiful city of Missoula Montana. My major requirement for school was a mountain location offering snowboarding, hiking, beauty, and a layed back lifestyle. Missoula offered that and much more.
While at the University of Montana I had the privilege to study under some phenomenal professors in a variety of disciplines. However, I mainly focused on photography, ceramics, and media arts. I eventually graduated with a B.A. in Studio Fine Arts and a minor in Media Arts.
Cancer Sucks
After graduation I moved back to Indiana to work with my family. During that time I was diagnosed with Papillary Thyroid Cancer. I had my thyroid and several lymph nodes removed surgically, then went through several radiation treatments. This was my second bout with cancer. Previously, at the age of 17, I was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer. At first it was mis-diagnosed allowing the cancer to spread to my abdominal lymph nodes. I went through several surgeries and Chemotherapy treatments. I have the scars to prove all of this. Currently I am still alive. Fuck you Cancer. I smack you with a white glove.
Internet Nerdery
In March 2008 I closed Art Rogue Gallery and took a position with Sitening, a technology-focused Web Design and Search Marketing company. My official title is SEO Specialist and I work on some amazing projects helping out great clients.
Even though the Art Rogue Gallery is closed I am still actively producing new artwork for sale and exhibition.
